Everything you wanted to know about IVF Center

In Vitro Fertilization, popularly known as IVF, is a method of assisted reproduction where a woman’s egg is fertilised by sperm in a special lab outside the body. The embryos are then implanted into the woman’s uterus with the goal of achieving a successful pregnancy.

IVF center was initially recommended to women with blocked fallopian tubes, but over the years the technique has gained immense popularity and acceptance as a cure for all fertility problems. For those couples struggling with fertility issues, IVF is a good option vis-à-vis other fertility treatments as it offers the best chance of success.

You can choose IVF center if you are diagnosed with:

IVF center process steps

The timeline for an IVF treatment depends on how well your body responds to various medications that are a part of the treatment. Following are the broad outline of steps involved in a typical IVF treatment:

Step 1: Stimulation of ovaries

In the first step of IVF, a woman’s ovaries are stimulated to produce more eggs. This is done through medication or hormone therapy which contains Follicle Stimulating Hormone. The goal is to stimulate the follicles in your ovaries (where the eggs live) to produce more eggs than usual. In a natural cycle generally, only one egg is produced per menstrual cycle Ultrasounds and blood tests are conducted regularly to monitor your ovaries and hormone levels.

Step 2: Egg collection

A day before your eggs are to be collected from your body, you’ll receive a hormone injection that will help your eggs mature. This is followed by egg collection. In this step, a very thin needle is inserted into each ovary to remove the fluid which contains the eggs from the follicles of the ovaries. This procedure is done under general anesthesia.

Step 3: Egg is then fertilized

The egg collected is then fertilized in a test tube (in vitro) with the sperm of your partner or donor. In some cases, the doctors inject the sperm directly into the egg through ICSI procedure to ensure optimum success. The best and the healthiest sperm are selected. The fertilization process is then monitored to ensure a healthy embryo is developed. The embryos are kept in a special incubator.

Step 4: Embryo transfer

When the eggs do get fertilized and become embryos they are then transferred to the woman’s uterus. Three to five days after fertilization, multiple embryos are then implanted using a catheter. It is a simple procedure and takes around 5 minutes. The patient is awake during the procedure. Since multiple embryos are transferred there are high chances of multiple or twin births.

Step 5: Pregnancy test

The last step is to check whether the process has worked or not – to see if you have become pregnant or not. This is done through a blood test usually two weeks after the embryo transfer. Compared to other fertility treatments, IVF treatment offers the best chance of success.

What if the IVF cycle fails?

An IVF cycle can fail for multiple reasons such as cancellation of the IVF cycle due to less production of follicles, or inadequate egg collection or transferred embryos may not implant. Each IVF cycle may not lead to a successful pregnancy.

A failed IVF cycle can prove devastating to a couple. However, one failed IVF cycle doesn’t mean it won’t be successful the next time around. Hence, Morpheus offers Double Your Chance (DYC) program, a highly result-oriented plan in which you get 2 cycles of IVF at the cost of one. If the first cycle fails, the second procedure is conducted free of cost.
